Princess Haya receives German Award

Princess Haya bint Al Hussein received on Saturday the Steiger Award in the category ‘Sport’ during a gala dinner hosted by TV presenter Cherno Jobatey in Bochum, Germany.

The Princess was presented the Steiger Award for her various roles in the field of sport, including her work as president of the International Equestrian Federation, as a member of the International Olympic Committee and as president of the Dubai Organising Committee for the Sport Accord Convention 2010.

This year’s winners of the prize have been the Prof. Dr. Alfred Biolek (Media), Robert Wilson(art), Marius Müller-Westernhagen (music), Armin Mueller-Stahl (film, Sir Christopher Lee (lifetime achievement), Eva Luise Koehler (Charity), Prof. Dr. Claus Hipp (Environment) and Serbian President Boris Tadic (Europe).

Also the former Iranian Empress Farah Diba, who received this Award in 2005, was presented during ceremony. She presented the Steiger Award in the category ‘Art’ to her friend the director and artist Robert Wilson.

The Steiger Award has been presented annually since 2005 in different categories to personalities of the public life for their work in the fields of music, sports, media, environment and film, is named after “Der Steiger” (the miner) and symbolises traits that are associated with miners in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany – straightforwardness, honesty, loyalty and tolerance.
