Australian Journalist Pardoned in Thailand
The Australian journalist Harry Nicolaides, who was imprisoned last August and convicted last month under the strict lèse majesté laws in Thailand, has been pardoned by King Bhumibol according to his family.
As mentioned in this blog entry, a pardon seemed likely once Nicolaides’ appeal of his sentence received the support of the Corrections Department. However, it was still possible that it would take several months for the appeal to work through the system. It appears that things have gone smoothly and that Nicolaides’ ordeal is finally over.
