Death of Count Christian of Castell-Rüdenhausen

On January 21st Count Christian of Castell-Rüdenhausen passed away after a long illness at the age of 57. Count Christian will be burried tomorrow.

Since 1982 the count lived in the castle of Twickel in Delden, The Netherlands. He inherited the castle from a great aunt, the last lady of Twicke, baroness Marie van Heeckeren van Wassenaer. She put the estate and the castle in a foundation, under the express wish that the castle would be inhabited. The count was the chairman of the foundation but he also worked at the marketing department of the insurance company Centraal Beheer, in Apeldoorn.

At the castle the count was a host to the many visitors. The most prominent ones are Queen Beatrix, the German President Horst Köhler and the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Sicco Mansholt. He compared living in castle Twickel to a discovery voyage, a discovery voyage through the rich past of the castle. The count made sure that the castle and the estate did not change in some sort of themepark. Events organised there had to be appropriate.

In 1977 Count Christian married Roline Hintzen, from Rotterdam. The couple has three children: count Juriaan, count Roderik and countess Clara. His sister Donata is the widow of prince Louis Ferdinand jr. of Prussia and is currently married to Duke Friedrich August of Oldenburg. His nephew prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia is the head of the royal house of Prussia while his eldest brother, fürst Johann Friedrich of Castell-Rüdenhausen is the head of that mediatised family.
