Fashion at the Danish New Years Courts

1st January 2010 – New Year Court banquet at Amalienborg Palace
Queen Margrethe
The Queen wore a fuschia gown with petal details on the hem. image The dress was actually a re-work of the overcoat she wore to Crown Prince Frederik’s wedding in May 2004. Worn with the gown was a diamond and pearl tiara. image

Crown Princess Mary
Mary wore a new dress by the Danish designer Jesper Hovring. The bright orange dress with an off-the shoulder neckline also featured a wrap effect skirt that flowed into a court train. image Mary wore parts of Queen Ingrid’s ruby parure. image

Princess Marie
Marie wore a very simple soft flowing gown in a light pink hue. image The dress featured a low square neckline and a gathered bodice which flowed into the skirt. Fashion watchers may note that this style of bodice is very similiar to a number of Marie’s evening dresses many of which have been designed by royal favourite Malene Birger. She also wore the diamond floral tiara that she wore to her 2008 wedding and a sapphire and diamond brooch worn as a necklace that once belonged to Queen Alexandrine. image

5th January 2010 – Dioplomatic Reception
Queen Margrethe
As with previous years, the Queen recycled the blue embossed dress with fur trim. This outfit is almost considered the ‘uniform’ for these formal New Year Courts that are held. image

Crown Princess Mary
The elegant grey self-patterned dress with matching cropped jacket, made by one of Mary’s favourite designers Julie Fagerholt of Heartmade, was recycled and first seen at the same event back in 2008. image

6th January 2010 – 3rd New Year Court
Queen Margrethe
Continued her theme of using the same dress for these formal Courts, the Queen recycled the blue dress and fur trim that she also wore at the previous days Court.

Crown Princess Mary
Mary wore a new pink gown with a large ‘fairy princess’ style skirt worn with a brown velvet jacket. image Her pink weave box style clutch was from Bottega Venta. image
