Crown Princess Mary has recently returned from a secret visit to Danish troops serving in Afghanistan. The visit took place on November 29 and 30.

Visiting the province of Helmand in southern Afghanistan, Mary was joined by the President of the Folketinget, Thor Pedersen, and the Danish Defence Minister, Soren Gade. The group arrived at Camp Bastion in Helmand on Sunday November 29th. From there, they visited the Danish army bases of Armadillo and Price, before returning to Camp Bastion late Monday afternoon.

During the visits to the bases, Crown Princess Mary had the opportunity to speak with the Danish soldiers stationed there, as well as being shown around the area. Briefings were also delivered to the visiting group on the situation in the area.

Gade told TV2 that Princess Mary “expressed respect for the work that soldiers carry and respect for someone taking responsibility for making the world a safer place.” He also joked that the soldiers had many photos to use as Christmas cards this year from the visit.
