The sad ceremony was attended by the widow of the Prince, Léa, her son Renaud Bichara and her daughter and son-in-law, Laetitia and Didier Nagant de Deuxchaisnes.

Most of the members of the Belgian Royal Family were present: the King and the Queen, Queen Fabiola, Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde (who celebrated on the very same day their 10th wedding anniversary), Prince Laurent and Princess Claire, and Princess Marie-Esmeralda (Alexandre’s youngest sister) with her husband Salvador Moncada and children Alexandra and Leopold. Only three members of the Royal Family were absent, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, due to an official visit in Colombia they’re engaging in these days, and Princess Marie-Christine, Prince Alexandre’s other sister, who is on bad terms with her family (she didn’t even attend her parents’ funerals in 1983 and 2002), but sent flowers.

Several relatives of the late Prince and members of foreign Royal Families attended too; among them were Grand-Duke Henri of Luxembourg, Archduchess Marie Astrid of Austria, Princess Margaretha von und zu Liechtenstein (children of the late Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte, half sister of Prince Alexandre), Archduke Carl Christian of Austria (Marie Astrid’s husband) and his mother Archduchess Yolande, Archduke Rudolph of Austria, and Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy (Alexandre’s cousin).

The Belgian government and public authorities were represented by Defence Minister Pieter De Crem, Minister of State Herman De Croo, Senate chairman Armand De Decker, the Mayor of Knokke Count Leopold Lippens.

After the ceremony, Prince Alexandre’s coffin has been set in a chapel near to the crypt of the church, which is the burial place of the Belgian Royal Family.
