Mette-Marit opens the world’s first Salt Power Generator
On November 24th, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway was in Tofte, in the south of Oslo, to attend the official opening of the world’s first salt power generator.
The Norwegian energy company Statkraft opened the world’s first salt power generator. It’s a system which harnesses the energy that is produced when fresh water and sea water mix. The Minister of Oil and Energy, Terje Riis-Johansen and Chairman of the Board, Arvid Grundekjoen also attended this event.
The plant work is a big step in the fight against the Climate Change. The plant produces emissions-free electricity by mixing fresh water and sea water through a special membrane.
Statkraft has been researching into this new technology for 10 years and is sure to be capable of making a substantial global contribution to eco-friendly power production
