Felipe and Letizia in London to Award the International Media
TRH the Prince and Princess of Asturias were last night in London, United Kingdom, to attend the presentation ceremony of the 2009 Foreign Press Association Media Awards, which are held by the Foreign Press Association in London (FPA).
The FPA, which was founded in 1888, is an association of journalists working in the United Kingdom for overseas media. It’s one of the oldest clubs for foreign correspondents in the world, and provides accreditation to more than 1500 journalists every year, representing all media from news agencies to print, broadcast and internet.
Once a year the Association present its Foreign Press Association Media Awards divided in eleven categories; “News Story of the Year: Print and Web”, “News Story of the Year: TV”, “Feature Story of the Year: Print and Web”, “Documentary/Feature Story of the Year: TV”, “Radio Story of the Year”, “Sports Story of the Year”, “Travel/Tourism Story of the Year”, “Financial/Economic Story of the Year”, “Story of the Year by a Full Member of the FPA”, “Environment Story of the Year” and the most important the “Journalist of the Year”, which is considered the “Winner of Winners”. Last year HRH the Prince of Wales presented the award to Somali cameraman Abdullahi Farah Duguf.
The dinner and presentation ceremony took place at the in the Ballroom of the Park Lane Sheraton Hotel, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia were welcomed by the President of the Foreign Press Association, Hosny Emam, and representatives of the FPA committee. After the FPA’s president speech, the Prince of Asturias addressed the audience to congratulate the prize winners. Prince Felipe indicated that journalism is a crucial profession in today’s world and that the good journalism, writing, broadcast or web helps all to deal with and to evaluate the changes that are taking place in the international scene.
