Royal Fiancé Receives Swine Flu Vaccine, Royal Family Wait in Line
Daniel Westling, the fiancé of HRH Crown Princess Victoria, has been confirmed as receiving the much-sought-after Influenza A (H1N1), ie. swine flu, vaccine.
Westling is considered to be in the high-risk group after undergoing a kidney transplant in May this year. The high-risk category includes pregnant women, people with compromised immune systems (cancer patients, HIV/AIDS sufferers), and people who fall into the seasonal flu vaccine at-risk group (as Daniel does).
Nina Eldh, the head of communications at the Royal Court, confirmed the news to Swedish newspaper Expressen. Eldh also confirmed that Westling is the only member of the Royal Family to have been vaccinated. “The National Board of Health and Welfare has recommended the vaccine. They [the Royal Family] will have it when it is available,” she said.
The Royal Family is believed to be receiving the vaccine in the coming weeks. TM King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have previously spoken of their wish to be vaccinated against the influenza which has killed just over 6,000 people worldwide since the first outbreak was confirmed in Mexico.
Daniel Westling is not the only European royal to be vaccinated. Last week, the Norwegian Royal Court confirmed that the senior branch of the family (the King, Queen and Crown Prince Couple) had received the vaccine.
