In her role as Special Advocate for the United Nations Queen Máxima is in New York and Washington from today, March 13, till March 15, here are some pics of her first meetings:

Queen Máxima as Special Advocate for the United Nations attends the Impact Summit Europe 2017 ("Shaping the Future of Impact and Sustainable Development Investing") at the Peace Palace in Den Haag today, March 21, and tomorrow:

Queen Máxima will be participating in a panel discussion ‘Inspiring women: Scaling up women’s entrepreneurship’ organised during the Women20Summit of the G20 in Berlin.

She will be on the stage with -among others- Dr. Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde and the Canadian minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.

The discussion will start at 13:00h GMT+1. The queen will be attending due to her role as special UN advocate for inclusive finance. There will be a livestream here:

Photos of Ivanka Trump and Queen Máxima, who seem get along.

The Volkskrant published a column which stated that the attendance of both the Queen as the daughter of the American president is counter effective of the cause they are promoting. Neither of the two achieved their position on their own, but only because they were married to- or daughter of- .

i have to disagree about maxima she has worked for the un for years on the other hand ivanka just started public service and promoting women's issues because she is the daughter of a president who has been president for less than 100 days . if she worked with the un and her father got a second term her being there wouldn't look out of space if michael obama was there no one would argue that she is there because of her husband .
 
well, maxima looks amazing in that dress! i am so glad she is present in this event.

whatever people say, i am happy that ivanka is taking a lead at promoting women. i agree that her position in the administration is strange and almost unofficial, but i welcome any efforts by anyone to continue improving the lives of women. if anything, she is after all an entrepreneur in her own right so she deserves some credit in talking about the difficulties female business owners have.

on that note, is maxima the first royal to meet with ivanka? i believe so.

Maxima gets along with everyone, or should I say she makes it her business to get along. Remember how president Obama was besotted with her at the d day celebrations

At one point she sums up what she thinks is a feminist & that she is a feminist herself. After which Chancellor Merkel replied: 'Then I am also a feminist'. It was rather generous of her to attend the meeting.

Before the meeting the Algemeen Dagblad adviced the queen to 'politely ignore' Ivanka Trump. They adviced to focus on other panel members and not to appear next to her on the group photo. The article also mentioned that our Foreign Affairs Minister in a private moment exclaimed that it was fortunate that the king and queen were in Washington only in 2015, which means that hopefully they do not have to go there the next 4-8 years.
HM obviously did not read the article ;).

I think most people are feminists even they might not always want to admit it... Feminism seems to get aa bad rep. these days. And I’d be surprised if ms. Merkel wasn’t a feminist.

Merkel is a power politician who invited Ivanka Trump for political reasons and she certainly doesnt have the image of a feminist. She is one of the few truly powerful women worldwide not involved in a gender discussion, mainly because she dresses the same way and has the same hairstyle for decades. To hear her call herself a feminist is a rare emotional statement, her approach towards politics is quite scientific and very 'wait and see'. In Washington, she showed The Donald who's boss without him even noticing.

It was a nice gesture to give this event an extra attention boost.

Sheikha Moza bint Nasser from Qatar, founder of the Education Above All Foundation and advocate of UN development goals, held a keynote speech.
