Frederik gik med stok - Frederik with a cane.
When Frederik and Mary entered the opera during their visit to Hungary, Frederik was carrying a cane, or rather a Fokos-cane, decorated in the Hungarian colors. That had been presented to him by the Hungarian President, Laszlo Solyom.
Mary was presented with a ballet book by the Hungarian choreographer Gyula Sarkozi.
Loads of Danish and Hungarian dignitaries attended a reception at the opera efter a performance by the Royal Danish Ballet.
When they left Mary said to our reporter: "It has been a very, very grand evening. Utterly fantastic".
However they took their time to wawe to a number of Hungarian fans who had taken up position outside the opera, before they finally drove away.
M&F also visited the Hungarian President in the Sandor Palace, and here they were treated with a spectacular view over Budapest from the balcony.
He said: "Here is Budapest and here I often stand and enjoy the view". It was a great day. The temperature was a balmy 20 degrees C.
Before then M&F had been to the official opening of the Budapest Spring Festival at the Ludwig Museum. Here a Danish exhibition was also opened.
M&F and the new Minister for Culture Per Stig Møller were served tea in the grand blue room. The Hungarian first lady was not present. she is unfortunately seriously ill.
After a long chat about culture M&F left, so that they two hours later could be in the opera.
