Skipping over the prairies. They haven't been to Saskatchewan or Manitoba (or the other 3 maritime provinces). I would assume likely Vancouver and Victoria (my dad's cousin used to host royal visits and escorted the queen last visit but is retired). I would love to see them go to Prince George. Diana and Charles did years ago and city was so happy with their son's name. I wish they would stop in Edmonton along the way, they skipped over Alberta's capital last, and close to where going.


Yukon will be very nature based. Pretty remote. BC could be blend of things.

A shame to not take the kids - because Canada is a such a great place to visit. Mom and dad might have to work - but I think all little people would find lots of Canada wonderful to visit. I always did. However, George will be in school, won't he?

All of the royal reporters are basically saying "well, we think the kids will go but it's too soon for them to announce that".

The last time the Yukon saw a royal tour was 2001, so it's past due.

I'll honestly be surprised if there isn't a stop in Ottawa; the release seems to be carefully worded to allow for other stops in addition to BC and the Yukon.

Fall is a beautiful time to visit Canada. Time to get out, dust off and polish up the diamonds in HM's maple leaf brooch. I think that's one of the best brooches in HM's collection.

I think whether or not the kids go on this tour depends on the length of it, where they're going to be going and what they're going to be doing. I would think the places that they go to that might be of interest to kids, how much time the itinerary allows for the parents and kids to be together and probably a few other considerations would define whether or not George and Charlotte go or stay home.

Exactly. Including "Do we want George to be out of nursery for a few weeks" and the temprament of the kids at that time.

I hope they take the children, for at least a part of the tour. Nursery school is not rigorous, so if George missed some, it won't be a big deal. I've taught in a nursery school classroom, and parents took kids on long trips pretty much all the time. The only concern would be tuition, but since William and Catherine are not struggling financially, it won't be a big deal. In any case, I'm looking forward to this tour, with, or without the children.

It would have to be more of the hub and spoke tour that they did in NZ and Australia where we saw one George event at each country and then he was at the government houses and WK came back to him after their engagements.

The week in India and Bhutan probably had more engagements than the 3 weeks in NZ & Australia.

Exactly. Kids and no kids make two very different tours. With two different "goal". With kids, it's more about introducing the kids to the country, build a connection and do some events in between while the no-kids tours are more hectic and have more events. Different things, both good in different ways.

According to the PM's statement, it appears that William and Kate will only visit British Columbia and Yukon, so I am not expecting a very extensive program.

I think that even if he does speak French and even flubs it up a bit, its the effort of trying that would endear him to the people. It shows making an effort and that's what counts in my book.

As I wrote above, after reading the PM's statement, it appears to me that they are only going to Western Canada, where close to nobody speaks French, so he probably won't have to struggle with language problems.

I agree. I think most people appriciate someone trying to say a word here and there in your own language.

I don't know, but it looks to me pretty much like a vacation trip to see the (truly beautiful) Western Canada landscape. I'd expect more of a future king visiting one of his future realms, but I'll refrain from any final conclusion before the full official schedule is published.

Well, there you run into Canadian bilingualism in unexpected places. Speeches by public figures in Canada are often in French and English even if there are no French speakers in the audience. It would depend on official the speeches are and if they're broadcast across the country. Prime Ministers and other high officials often flip back and forth.

How on earth can you say that with the little facts we have? I have no problem with people critiquing the Cambridges but writing a royal tour of as a vacation when we only know 2 general locations (with no time frames etc) is just silly.

Heritage Canada for the most part plans the itinerary in consultation with KP and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The Government of Canada pays for the visit, so royals pretty much go where they're told

The 2016 Royal Tour of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge


The tour is already generating a lot of interest. Last night, the CBC national news had it as one of it's lead stories.
The possibility of George and Charlotte going and the lack of a republican movement in Canada are mentioned in the video below.
