Philippe and Mathilde at the time of their engagement (1999). They are standing outside the castle of Laeken, that a few months later would become their home.

I forgot one ;)
It's the smallest and sweetest house belonging to the royal family: le chalet des princes.
It's a small house that queen Astrid had made for her children to play in.
It was recently renovated, and now it's being used by queen Astrid's great grandchildren!!
princess Elisabeth celebrated her first birthday in it. le chalet des princes is located in the park of Laeken, the home of the dukes of Brabant.

WOW! The castle of Leaken where Phillippe and Mathildhe and their two children live is absolutly beautiful. Thank You for the photos. I thought that they lived in some moderate palace somewhere in Brussels. I was wrong. Will they continue to live here when they become King and Queen? Princess Elisabeth will most likely relocate her one day after she marries waiting to become Queen living with her husband and her family. WOW! Thank You so much!

Sounds like Astrid was inspired by the playhouse she and her sisters and brother had in Sweden. I know that Crown Princess Märtha had a similar play-house, though I doubt it was as fancy as this, put up for her children to play in, as she had done when she was a little girl.

In the park of Laeken (160 hectares), there are also a Japanse tower and a Chinese pavilion and house, built on request of king Leopold II.

This sounds stupid and I don't know if someone has already asked this but, can people (non-royal like me) visit the park of Laeken? The Chinese pavilion and the Japanese inspired tower makes it seem like such a beautiful place to go and see. =)

Each year, in the spring, the Glasshouses of Laeken are opened to the public, in the last week of April and the first week of May. This tradition has been carried on for a century.

Care to come to dinner at Philippe and Mathilde's home? The table's all set :) :)

MY favourite pic, among the ones you posted. Thank you, Catherine.

Elisabeth and Gabriel must have a marvellous time living there!!
I sure hope they are given the opportunity to "let their hair down", when they play.

An improvised table, but a beautiful room inside the castle of Laken
