Archduke Ferdinand is the son of Archduke Heinrich von Habsburg and of his wife, Countess Ludmilla von Galen. Countess Katharina is a daughter of Count Andreas von Hardenberg and of Baronesse Isa von Hahn. She works as a TV presenter (known as Tita von Hardenberg).

Katharina (*1968) and Ferdinand (*1965) got married in a Lutheran ceremony, at the Friedenkirche in Potsdam (Germany), on May 22nd 1999, although the union was also blessed in a Catholic ceremony, prior to the Lutheran one. After the church, a reception was held at the Ritz-Carlton.

The civil wedding took place two days before. followed by a pre-wedding party, under the theme "Flower Power".

The couple has now two children: Jakob-Maximilian (*2002) and Paulina (*2004).

The 32-years-old groom is catholic, while his 2 years younger wife is protestant. They had an ecumenical ceremony attended by approximately 450 guests.

I think its neat that she went for something different....not wearing a tiara. The flowers in the hair is pretty. But I'm not that big of a fan of the dress- it doesn't look like it fits that well or something.

Thanks for all the pictures Elsa M.

I hadn't seen this one before! Couldn't agree more about the absence of a tiara and veil...sometimes it's just so refreshing to see a simpler presentation, and the flowers in her hair looked lovely indeed. Not sure about the bodice of the dress either, though.

By the way, those German noble folks...we have to hand it to them for throwing weddings that often and for getting hitched to each other, for reminding us of noble houses we'd all but forgotten about! (well and thanks to Elsa of course for letting us participate in the fun of viewing the pictures! :)

There are two photos above in which the bride, groom, and guests are running down the street, smiling. Does anyone know why they were running, and to where? Clearly they were enjoying themselves.
