Hello : Welcome
Danish Royals Enjoy a Break at ther French Chateau
Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark have been enjoying a break at their summer residence in Caïx, south-western France. The royal couple were all smiles as they made their annual trip to the chateau, which is nestled in the family's renowned Cahors vineyards.
The charming medieval city of Cahors offers a beautiful and relaxed environment, belying its history as one of Europe's major power centres. Walking around the pretty streets, it's hard to imagine that this was once one of the continent's most important banking cities.
Its laid-back atmosphere owes much to the fact that it hasn't been developed as a tourist destination to the same extent as other towns in the region. Visitors can enjoy a boat ride on the River Lot, taking in the famous Valentre fortress bridge which dates back to the 1300s. And those with a more adventurous spirit may wish to visit the underground rivers and grottos in nearby Gouffre de Padirac.
But probably the most impressive thing about this part of rural France is the sheer beauty of the countryside. Many holidaymakers prefer to follow the example of Prince Henrik, who prefers a simple walk in its picturesque forests and vineyards.
