Just to clarify my previous point regarding Charlene’s appearance by Albert’s side for the New Year message. Because she’s appeared in previous years, given she’s attended all major events over this festive period, if they don’t continue the tradition of her being by his side it’ll be fuel for the gossip column, so she’s kind of stuck with just standing there.

Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella witnessed the swearing-in of new Minister of State Didier Guillaume today, September 2:

At the end of this oath-taking, the Sovereign Prince presented him with a roadmap that is structured around the following objectives:- Continue the energy transition and implement a "renaturation" of the city;- Rethink urban planning and mobility;- Adapt public security policies to future challenges;- Strengthen Monaco's position internationally on major issues;- Adapt economic and budgetary policy to future challenges in public finances.

Albert is very busy and ambitious in keeping his small country up to date with international issues. He is doing very well. The only thing that sometimes makes me wonder how those small children, just 9 years old, are always involved in things that they cannot understand at their age. Gabriella doesn't look happy at all. I think it is a too early, I wish for them to enjoy their childhood a little bit longer. Life will get seriously enough for them in the future.

I must admit this has crossed my mind too. I like that they are being steadily introduced to what you might call the rhythm of the Monegasque royal year such as the festival of St Devote, the September picnic etc. And they clearly can enjoy occasions like the Grand Prix / Circus Festival, but political & diplomatic occasions can surely wait for a few more years.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended the start of the fourth edition of "The Crossing: Calvi – Monaco Water Bike Challenge" in support of the Princess Charlene Foundation today, September 6:

While that's true, Albert was not a young father.
If he were to die before the children are grown, then what? They could be thrust into their responsibilities with little preparation.
At least this way, they have an idea of what to expect in future.
