Princess Nathalie Not Going To Rio

In an interview with Der Westen, Princess Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg has confirmed she will not be competing for Denmark at the Rio Olympics in August, as she does not feel that her horse is stable enough to participate at that standard.

“For the Olympics, you need a stable horse – and on Saturday in the Grand Prix Special [at the 2016 Danish Dressage Championships in Broholm], I saw that Fabienne [her 18-year-old horse] is not resistant…she was irritated by the rain and the spectators with umbrellas,” Nathalie said during the interview.

But that doesn’t mean the Princess – who won a bronze medal with the Danish dressage team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics – was unhappy with her mount’s performance: “This time the Grand Prix was really good, I was happy. And we had a new free program that went well with her.”

She also said the decision had been some time in the making, but she was not too disappointed.
