Nobel Peace Prize 2010
Today the Nobel Peace Prize Award ceremony took place in Oslo. This year Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo was awarded for his long and non-violent fight for human rights in China.
Xiaobo is imprisoned in China and wasn’t present at the award ceremony in Oslo. Therefore the chair of the prize winner on the podium was left empty during the ceremony. There was no one attending the ceremony to accept the award in behalf of Xiaobo.
During the ceremony Nobel committee chairman Torbjørn Jagland held a speech about the winner of the award and placed the Nobel medal and diploma on the empty chair.
Later during the ceremony Liv Ullmann read Xiaobo’s defense speech “I have no Enemies” which was held on September 23rd 2009.
