The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Family, News and Events 9: August 2023 -

I agree it is deeply bizarre for 2 private individuals who are no longer working royals to go on a pretend royal tour. I would understand if Harry was in Nigeria to participate in Invictus-related events only (as he is, at least figuratively, still associated with Invictus) , but the rest of the...

What else could he (or rather, his spokesperson) have said? That he was offended for being snubbed? Saying that he understands that his father was busy and that he hopes to meet him some other time is merely diplomatic language.

Maybe Frederik and Mary will run a consistently more frugal court than Daisy did.

Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant News and Events 2, Feb 2024 -

The Belgian posters are better equipped to answer your question, but it seems to me that the point of view may be a little bit different in Belgium than in countries like Spain. Belgium is a small country with a very international outlook. Doing your university studies abroad is not something...

Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant News and Events 2, Feb 2024 -

I am surprised, however, that it is not an issue in Belgium that Princess Elisabeth never attended a French-speaking school throughout her academic life. She went to a Dutch-speaking school in Belgium, then did her IB in English in Wales, used Dutch again as the language of instruction at the...

Yes, my point was that they are supposed to genuflect , but many people don’t really go as low as genuflecting and only “ curtsy” really.

Danish State Visit to Sweden: May 6 - 7, 2024

King Frederik X did well in his speech. I feel like it was a bit awkward for both kings to adjust fully to Frederik's new position, which is not unexpected given their family dynamics and age difference, but it turned out to be easier than I had anticipated.

Crown Princess Victoria Jewels 4: Jun 2023 -

A quite high number of curtsies tonight in Sweden. Is it because it is a state visit from Denmark?

Queen Mary of Denmark Jewels 1: 14 Jan 2024 -

I am not disappointed because her ruby set is nicer in my humble opinion than the Pearl Poire parure, even though Queen Mary is not wearing the full set tonight. We should not forget either that Queen Ingrid wore the rubies frequently as queen consort, so it is not really a downgrade.

I think that she looks very elegant overall.

Danish State Visit to Sweden: May 6 - 7, 2024

I haven't had time to see any images yet. Did CP Victoria curtsy to the new King and Queen of Denmark? It looks a little bit cold though for a spring day.

Do Protestants bow towards the altar? Apparently Anglicans do, as I have seen members of the British Royal Family do it many times, but for Calvinists like the Dutch Royal Family, I suppose that would be unusual. Calvinist churches don't even have an "altar" strictly speaking and, in any case...

Crown Prince Christian, News and Current Events Part 1: January 2024 -

Sorry, but I fail to see why "it serves a higher purpose" to expose a particular private individual for committing a violation of the traffic code. Identifying people in breach of the traffic rules and penalizing them accordingly (be it with a fine, or a suspension of driving privileges, or...

Royals at the Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day: June 6, 2024

I believe the Prince of Wales will represent the UK. I don't see the Queen attending if the King is unable to be there.

Engagement of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett: June 7, 2022

In Belgium, the constitution says that the King gives consent to marriages of people in the line of succession (hereafter referred to as "royal marriages"), but consent is declared by means of a royal decree which must be countersigned by a responsible minister. So, in practice, the person who...

Queen Mary of Denmark Jewels 1: 14 Jan 2024 -

Letizia theoretically should have access to several demi-parures and also diamond rivières which she could match with her tiaras, but she chooses a minimalist approach .

No, there is no legal requirement to be domiciled in the UK to be in the line of succession to the Crown. However, if he is considered to be not domiciled in the UK, he will be legally barred from serving as a Counsellor of State or as a Regent.

Queen Mary of Denmark Jewels 1: 14 Jan 2024 -

Unfortunately the color (and the print) of the Queen's gown and the lack of proper lighting obscure the emeralds. Since the emerald parure is never worn outside Denmark, we won't see it unfortunately either in the upcoming outgoing state visits in May, so we will have to wait a while for a...

State visit from Spain to the Netherlands: 16-18 April, 2024

It is weird that King Willem-Alexander wore the. Collar of the Order of Carlos IIII with the sash of the same order as the protocol is normally to wear either the collar or the sash, but not both together. It is OK for King Felipe VI to wear the collar of Order of the Golden Fleece with the...

Yes, that is correct. The only members of the Spanish royal family who have an official coat of arms are King Felipe VI, the Princess of Asturias, and King Juan Carlos. I would realy like Queen Letizia to be given a personal coat of arms too, but that has not happened so far. When needed, she...

    Bowing and Curtseying

Yes, I find it interesting how princes and princesses for example in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden do not normally curtsy/bow to their own kings/queens, but curtsy/bow to foreign kings and queens. In fact, British and Danish princes/princesses are the only ones among the European...
