Death & Funeral of Johan Martin Ferner (1927-2015)

Thanks! Those were my guesses on all of those. :flowers: So it looked like Alexander and Carl-Christian were both pallbearers...do you know who the other four pallbearers were? One looked like it might have been Cathrine's husband, which led me to think one of the others might have been...

Death & Funeral of Johan Martin Ferner (1927-2015)

I think it is their youngest daughter, Elisabeth Ferner, but I'm not 100% sure.

Death & Funeral of Johan Martin Ferner (1927-2015)

Holmenkollen Chapel burnt down in the early 90s, and Princess Astrid, who loved the building, was central in the fundraising efforts to have it rebuilt. At least two (maybe all?) of her children were baptized there, and her son Alexander was married there. Nothing has been announced about...

Death & Funeral of Johan Martin Ferner (1927-2015)

How sad. I am a great fan of Astrid, and I always thought Mr. Ferner was a very good man. Do we know when the funeral will be? Will it be public at all?

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

I'm so glad you enjoyed the book so much, Duchess! It's always good when you're sad that it's finished. I do think it's especially fun for TRF members and other royal fans, because we all already feel like we know these people. And thanks for reviewing on Goodreads! I am a long...

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

I will have to put Stockholm on my list...I've heard it's a very beautiful city! I'll be spending a day in Malmo this summer, because I'm going to Copenhagen to visit family and Malmo is an easy day trip, but that doesn't really "count" as a trip to Sweden! In Copenhagen, of course don't miss...

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Hereditary Princess! I love Scandinavia too - I've been to Norway and Denmark (not Sweden yet), and I highly recommend them both. The 60s were a huge watershed in royal marriage. It was the generation that was young then (most of today's monarchs and their...

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

You should be able to find it at Barnes & Noble, Sesa, since you're in the U.S. And if you're B&N doesn't have it, then they should be able to order it for you. I know they do have it on their website (for a discount), and it's discounted on Amazon as well. Happy reading! :flowers:

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

I just tried to post and got an error, and it ate everything I'd typed. So let's try this again...apologies if the first one suddenly shows up and I have a double post. I'm so glad you both enjoyed the book! :flowers: It's good to know you think I captured Harald and Sonja well. (I'm...

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, kathl! It's so cool to think about the book being read as far away as Australia. :flowers:

    "A Shopkeeper's Daughter" - Novel based on Harald & Sonja's lovestory

Thanks, Her_Majesty! :flowers: If anyone else at TRF gets a chance to read the novel, I'd love to chat with you all about it. I'm fascinated to hear what my fellow royal watchers think, because I know you'll appreciate the book and all the research that went into it like no one else. I...

    Press reports: Norwegian Divorce Rumours

Haven't posted in awhile (still read/lurk all the time, just out of the habit of posting), but this whole thing is...! I'd be surprised if any of this is true, but I've been surprised before. I guess nothing's impossible. But mostly I'm struck by the fact that there's been dead silence...

Harald & Sonja - early years

Yeah, that's exactly the one I mean. And I LOVE the one of them looking at each other - very cute! :flowers: Sonja's definitely standing on something, though...she's nowhere near that close to his height!

Harald & Sonja - early years

I hadn't seen any of those, either - thanks for posting! :flowers: I recognize the long pink dress, but it's from a different photo shoot, because I remember pictures of her wearing it next to Harald in uniform.

Crown Prince Harald of Norway and Sonja Haraldsen 1968

Well, it's not technically a tiara - it's just flowers. She chose not to wear a tiara because she wasn't royalty until after the ceremony. :flowers: As for the dress, I can take it or leave it. Nothing bad about it, but it's rather plain. What I love about her wedding ensemble is that huge veil!

Relationships between members of the Norwegian royal family.

I agree that there may have been ways of keeping them private other than burning them. And I think they're loss is a sad one for history and for the family. My main point is just that she didn't do it out of anger. But I still don't think it was her best decision. :flowers:

Relationships between members of the Norwegian royal family.

Ragnhild burned Olav's letters not out of anger at him, but to prevent the letters from becoming public at her death. She was very old-fashioned and traditional and felt like reading her mail was a huge invasion of her privacy. I don't think there was anything explosive in the letters she...

    A Biography for Queen Sonja

I know, I thought that article was so sad. What horrible timing to have both events so close. :nonono: Sonja's mother must have been a very strong woman - 2 of her 4 children died before her, but she never seemed like a sad or bitter person. Quite the contrary, in fact.

    A Biography for Queen Sonja

Dronningen - Biography about Queen Sonja I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, or if it belongs somewhere besides current events (mods please move if necessary :flowers:). Sonja's official biography was released today, and there are lots of articles online about it. It looks like...

    Death & Funeral of HH Princess Ragnhild (9 June 1930 - 16 September 2012)

I don't really think this is the time to be annoyed about her interview several years ago. Aside from it being rather ill-mannered to speak ill of someone at the moment of their death, I also think it's unfair to Ragnhild in general to judge her whole life by that one comment. It may not have...

Princess Christina and Family, Current Events Part 1: March 2003 - January 2019

I agree that there's more to the story, although it's possible that the "more to the story" could be much more innocent than that. But there seem to be some odd holes in this story. Most glaringly, how did the Magnussons have a close relationship with this kid for 2 years and have him live...
