Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II: 8 September 2022

Since I was born in 1961, I never knew Great Britain to have any monarch except Queen Elizabeth. Now she's gone, and I must adjust to the reality that Great Britain has a new monarch now. Since I'm an American, she wasn't my monarch, but she was the one I grew up knowing about. RIP, Queen...

Tiara history, traditions, protocols, metals and meanings

Diana wasn't a princess yet, though. She didn't become one till she was married, so it stands to reason that she didn't wear a tiara until her wedding. Wouldn't an unmarried princess wear one to really fancy events such as state banquets (not a complete circle of a tiara, but a half-one)?

    English Speaking Royals

I don't know about that. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles both speak fluent French, and I think other members of the family also do. Also, didn't at least some of the immediate members learn some German? Oh, also, Charles became quite fluent in Welsh during his time of study there.

    Is The Monarchy Worth Keeping?

True, but no American president has to pay the crippling taxes the upper class has been forced to pay in Great Britain since the late 1940s. When Queen Elizabeth dies, the death duties will probably force Prince Charles to sell Balmoral and Sandringham.

    Royal Blackmail Plot: October 2007

Whichever way that is, the end result is the same. The press is not going to name the person, so we have no way of knowing who it is.

    Royal Blackmail Plot: October 2007

Yes, and it's always the butler who committed the murder. LOL. Guess some of us have read too many Agatha Christie novels. =) Seriously, I don't guess any of us will ever know who this person is, since the press has decided not to name him. We can guess and surmise, of course, but...

    Windsor Castle

Thanks, Warren. In regards to the State rooms, that plan certainly helps. In regards to the Semi-State rooms, I don't see the State Dining Room or the White, Green, or Crimson Drawing Rooms located on that State Apartment plan, so I know they must be located in the very corridor that the Royals...

    Windsor Castle

If you could find a way to display a copy of that map here, I'd be most grateful. I hope the poor royals can at least walk up and down their own East Terrace corridor!! (The one facing the East Terrace, I mean.) It's not fair if their access is limited strictly to the suites in the towers.

    Windsor Castle

Something puzzles me. I've got a DVD set titled "Windsor Castle: A Royal Year," which is excellent. I've watched it and other videos and DVDs, and I've read quite a few books on the British Royal Family. So this is what I understand (feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken): First, unless the...

    Royal Wedding Videos and DVDs

Oh. Thanks. Unless it's on Time Warner Cable, though, I probably can't get it.

I would sure love that. BTW, what's WE?

    Royal Wedding Videos and DVDs

I see. What a shame--I would have welcomed the chance to see that wedding again in its entirety. Converting to an American VHS format is probably pretty expensive, too. Oh, well, thanks for info.

    Royal Wedding Videos and DVDs

Unfortunately, bidding can result in exorbitant prices as well. I have no desire to take part in an auction. Are there any feasible alternatives?

    Royal Wedding Videos and DVDs

Is there a DVD of Charles and Diana's wedding? I've often wondered, since the event, if their wedding was ever immortalized on home video or DVD. If it was, I should like to know where it can be found. Kathy G.

Royal Ascot 1: All Years to 2007

OK, I see. So they stay in the Royal Box until the next-to-last race is finished, then they pay their visit to the paddock. Thanks for the info! And, hey, I still want to know what the Royal Box looks like! Living in America, I never get to see Royal Ascot on TV, so I have no way to find out...

Royal Ascot 1: All Years to 2007

And while I'm on the subject, what is the main race of the day? I understand there are 4 races per day, during Royal Ascot. Which one is the main race?

    Royal Christenings and Godparents

If this isn't the place for my question, mods, feel free to move it to a more appropriate thread. I'm just curious to know--what procedure, exactly, does a royal christening follow? What does the ceremony consist of? Being a Southern Baptist, I've never even been part of an ordinary christening...

Royal Ascot 1: All Years to 2007

They do, huh? I should think that, once they'd arrived in the Royal Box, they'd stay inside it right until all the races are over! =) LOL. They must be very interested in the horses, to take the time to walk to the paddock to see the horses for themselves. This leads me to another question. At...

Royal Ascot 1: All Years to 2007

I have 2 questions. First, what does the Royal Box look like now (say, from the 70s till this year)? Does it resemble the Royal Box at the Epsom Derby in any way? Second, to what are the Royals walking to in the pictures in which they're seen walking through crowds instead of riding in the...

    Portraits of the British Royals

What a lovely picture! Thanks for posting it. Again, forgive me if I come across as dense, but hey, what I can say? I don't live in Great Britain! =) LOL. But I just wanted to clarify. You say they're taken both for public and private family use. Not hard to guess that the family copies get...

Movies & TV Programmes About Diana

I did, when "Charles and Diana: A Royal Love Story" aired on the Family Channel--what I seek is the original, complete version, not the one with scenes taken out to make room for commercials. I taped "The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana" when it aired on CBS for the second time, during the...
